About the tour

A model city of the 1950s

On this Nowa Huta tour by bike you discover a district of Kraków that is enjoying a renaissance. It was built as an independent city and a symbol of socialist progress; today it is part of Kraków.

We ride through a model city of the 1950s and hear about its shelters, the buildings of the Sendzimir Steelworks (formerly the Lenin Steelworks), and the church that was never supposed to be built. Then we travel back to the 7th century and look out over the city from one of the oldest mounds in Poland.

Your guide also tells the story of the first bricks in Poland and the abbots who brought them, and introduces you to a unique Polish painter. And the highlight of the day: lunch in true communist-era (PRL) style.
